Regarding gaming groups and keeping them alive and even thriving is difficult. I used to host a Scrabble group (yeah shoot me its not modern) and I think I have some tips.
Always cater for the core people, the regulars - do what they want ALL the time. If you mess up people that regularly come to meets then they will not come any more.
Try to keep the selection of games minimal but covering broad bases. Never give people too much choice.
Always lead by saying what few games will be available. IME people going to groups expect some sort of leadership/direction
Always give people interested but new an idea of the overall vibe or seriousness of the meet. Manage expectations
Always be flexible if numbers are lower or higher than expected
NEVER take the advice of 1 newcomer over advice of regulars
